Migration is the real barrier — not the software

The most common reason institutes stay on spreadsheets far longer than they should isn't cost, it's the fear of a messy transition — half a semester's data in one format, the rest in another, staff who are used to the old way. The realistic path is never "switch everything overnight." It's picking one academic session as the cutover point, running rosters and attendance in the new system from that date forward, and letting historical records stay exactly where they are for reference. Institutes that try to retroactively migrate years of old spreadsheet data usually lose momentum before they finish; institutes that draw a clean line and start fresh from a specific date almost always follow through.
